How to Compress Images Without Losing Too Much Quality
When should you compress an image?
Large photos take longer to upload, share and open. Compression is useful for websites, emails and messaging, but there is a trade-off between file size and image quality. Keep an untouched original before exporting.
Which format should you choose?
JPEG is useful for photographs, WebP often provides smaller files with good visual quality, and PNG is useful for screenshots and graphics that need lossless pixels or transparency. PNG files may become bigger than JPEG or WebP, especially for photographs.
Steps in ToolsNest
Open Compress images, upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image, choose the output format and quality, then run Process & download. The downloaded copy does not replace your original.
How to check your results
Compare the exported image at 100% zoom with the original. Examine faces, text, straight lines and areas with fine detail. If edges look smeared or blocky, choose a higher quality setting. If the export is larger, try another format.
